The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s flag has a sky-blue field crossed diagonally by a red band edged in yellow, with a yellow five-pointed star in the upper hoist corner.
Meaning
Blue is associated with peace, red with the sacrifices of the country’s people, and yellow with national wealth and prosperity. The star represents the country’s future and unity.
History
Versions of the blue flag with star and diagonal stripe were used after independence. The country later adopted different flags under Mobutu Sese Seko and during the early post-Mobutu period. The present design was restored in 2006.
