Guinea’s national flag is a vertical tricolour of red, yellow and green. It was adopted when Guinea became independent from France in 1958.

Meaning

The colors belong to the Pan-African tradition. Red represents sacrifice and labour, yellow the sun and mineral wealth, and green the country’s vegetation and agricultural resources.

History

The vertical arrangement reflects the influence of the French tricolour, but Guinea replaced blue-white-red with colors associated with African independence and unity.
