The Comoros flag has four horizontal stripes of yellow, white, red and blue with a green triangle at the hoist containing a white crescent and four white stars.

What do the four stars and stripes mean?

The four stars and four stripe colors represent the four main islands historically claimed as part of the Comoros archipelago: Mohéli, Mayotte, Anjouan and Grande Comore. The crescent and green field reflect the country’s Islamic identity.

History

The current multicolour design was adopted in 2001 as part of a constitutional settlement intended to recognise the identity of the islands within the Union of the Comoros.
