Dominica Flag Etiquette & Protocol: Official Display Rules
Learn the official rules for reproducing and displaying Dominica’s national flag, including its 2:1 proportion, position of honour, multi-flag etiquette and correct Sisserou coloring.

Official reproduction rules
The Office of the President states that the Dominica flag should have a 2:1 width-to-height proportion, equal-width cross stripes and a circular red central emblem. The Sisserou parrot’s breast should be purple.
The flag may be displayed against any background color provided the national flag’s own colors remain unchanged.
Where does the Dominica flag take priority?
No other flag, color, standard, ensign or emblem should be displayed above or to the right of the Dominica national flag—defined in the official guidance as the observer’s left when facing the flags.
How is it displayed with other national flags?
Official etiquette says national flags should be flown from separate staffs of the same height and, as far as possible, be the same size. One nation’s flag should not be displayed above another in peacetime.
The Dominica flag is hoisted first and lowered last. In an international alphabetical display, it may also appear in its normal alphabetical position while host-country protocol permits Dominica flags at the beginning and end of the row.
How should the flag be displayed indoors?
When displayed on a staff at a church or auditorium, official etiquette places the Dominica flag at the speaker’s right. Other flags are placed to the speaker’s left.
When two flags are crossed against a wall, the Dominica flag should occupy the position of honour and its staff should be in front.
How should the flag be treated?
Dominica’s ceremonial guidance treats the flag as a living national symbol and says it should not be publicly mutilated, defaced, defiled, burned or trampled. The flagpole used in official settings is traditionally painted white.
