Sierra Leone’s national flag is a horizontal tricolour of green, white and blue. It was adopted at independence in 1961.

Meaning

Green represents agriculture, mountains and natural resources; white represents unity and justice; and blue represents the Atlantic Ocean and Freetown’s harbour, historically one of the country’s most important economic assets.

History

The flag was created for the transition from British colonial rule and first became the national flag on April 27, 1961.
