Niger’s national flag is a horizontal tricolour of orange, white and green with an orange disc in the centre of the white band.

Meaning

Orange is commonly associated with the northern Sahara and the sun, green with the fertile south and hope, and white with purity and civic responsibility. The orange disc represents the sun.

History

The flag was adopted in 1959 while Niger was becoming an autonomous republic within the French Community and was retained at independence in 1960.
