Rwanda’s national flag has a broad blue upper band above narrower yellow and green bands, with a golden sun in the upper fly corner.

Meaning

Blue represents peace and happiness, yellow economic development, and green hope and prosperity. The sun represents enlightenment and a brighter future.

History

The current flag was adopted in 2001 as Rwanda created new national symbols after the 1994 genocide. It replaced the earlier red-yellow-green flag that had become associated with the previous regime.
