Lesotho’s national flag has horizontal blue, white and green bands with a black mokorotlo, the traditional Basotho hat, centred on the white band.

Meaning

Blue represents rain, white peace and green prosperity and the land. The black mokorotlo is a powerful national and cultural symbol associated with Basotho identity.

History

The current flag was adopted on October 4, 2006 to mark the 40th anniversary of independence. It replaced a flag featuring a shield and weapons, placing greater emphasis on peace.
