Egypt’s national flag has three equal horizontal bands of red, white and black with the golden Eagle of Saladin centred on the white band.

Meaning

The colors come from the Arab Liberation Flag associated with Egypt’s 1952 revolution. Red is linked with the struggle against colonial rule, white with the revolution’s bloodless ideals, and black with the end of oppression. The eagle is a historic Arab emblem.

History

Egypt used several related red-white-black flags after 1952, including versions tied to political unions with other Arab states. The current form with the Eagle of Saladin was adopted in 1984.
