Who designed the flag?
The flag was designed in 1903 around the time Panama separated from Colombia. MarÃa Ossa de Amador is closely associated with producing the first examples of the design, based on a concept by Manuel Encarnación Amador.

Traditional official explanations connect red and blue with the country’s two main political traditions at independence, while white represents peace. The stars are associated with civic ideals: blue with purity and honesty, and red with authority and law.
