How to Draw the Antigua and Barbuda Flag

A practical way to reproduce the flag’s 2:3 format, rising sun, V-shaped red side panels and black-blue-white center.

1

Start with a 2:3 rectangle

The flag is widely standardized at a 2:3 proportion. A convenient working canvas is 600 × 400 units. The Government of Antigua and Barbuda’s national-symbols page does not itself publish the ratio, so this construction guide uses the standard proportion documented by technical flag references.

2

Build the red V-shaped outer field

Keep red across the two outer triangular sections. Their inner edges slope downward toward the lower center, creating the flag’s large V—the element officially interpreted as “Victory at last.”

3

Add the black, blue and white center

Inside the V, place black at the top, a narrower blue band beneath it, and white at the bottom. The blue band is visibly narrower than the black and white fields.

4

Draw the rising golden sun

Center a seven-point golden rising sun on the black area so that only its upper half is visible above the horizon line. Keep the rays evenly spaced and symmetrical around the vertical center.

5

Apply the five colors

Use red for the outer field, black at the upper center, blue in the middle band, white below and gold/yellow for the sun. For exact production work, use a technical specification rather than relying on display colors from a screen.

Common mistakes

  • Using a full sun instead of a rising half-sun.
  • Drawing more or fewer than seven sun points.
  • Making the blue band as tall as the black or white fields.
  • Losing the clear V formed by the red side panels.
