How to Draw the Mexico Flag: 4:7 Ratio, Stripes & Coat of Arms
Build the Mexican flag accurately from the legal 4:7 ratio, three equal vertical bands and centered national coat of arms.

Start with a 4:7 rectangle
The Mexican flag’s legal proportion is 4 units high by 7 units long. For a simple construction grid, use a 400 × 700 canvas, 800 × 1400, or any equivalent ratio.
Divide it into three equal vertical stripes
Split the total width into three equal parts. Color the hoist stripe green, the center stripe white and the fly stripe red.
Center the national coat of arms
Place the coat of arms in the middle of the white band. Mexican law specifies a diameter equal to three-quarters of the width of that central stripe.
Because the emblem is detailed, the most accurate approach for print or official-looking artwork is to use a trusted vector version of the national coat of arms instead of redrawing it freehand.
Example dimensions
| Flag height | 400 px |
|---|---|
| Flag width | 700 px |
| Each stripe | 233.33 px wide |
| Coat-of-arms diameter | 175 px |
For physical flags, use the same proportional relationships at any scale.
