Sudan’s national flag has horizontal red, white and black bands with a green triangle at the hoist. It uses the four Pan-Arab colors.

Meaning

Red is associated with struggle and sacrifice, white with peace and optimism, black with Sudan and the country’s name, and green with Islam, agriculture and prosperity.

History

Sudan used a blue-yellow-green flag after independence in 1956. The current Pan-Arab design was adopted in 1970 following the 1969 military revolution.
