The Palestinian flag has horizontal black, white and green bands with a red triangle at the hoist. Its design is closely related to the flag of the Arab Revolt of 1916 and uses the four Pan-Arab colors.

What does the Palestine flag look like?

The three equal horizontal stripes are black, white and green from top to bottom. A red triangle extends from the hoist into the centre.

Origins of the design

The flag belongs to the Pan-Arab color tradition that developed during the Arab Revolt against Ottoman rule. Similar combinations appear on the flags of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and other Arab states.

Modern Palestinian use

The Palestine Liberation Organization adopted the flag in 1964. It later became the flag of the State of Palestine proclaimed in 1988 and is used by the Palestinian Authority and Palestinian diplomatic missions.
