Mauritius’s national flag consists of four equal horizontal bands of red, blue, yellow and green. It is sometimes called Les Quatre Bandes, or “the Four Bands.”

Meaning

Red represents the struggle for freedom and independence, blue the Indian Ocean, yellow the light of independence and a bright future, and green the island’s vegetation and agriculture.

History

The flag was adopted on March 12, 1968 when Mauritius became independent from Britain.
