How to Draw the Nicaragua Flag: 3:5 Ratio, Three Stripes & Coat of Arms
A practical construction guide to Nicaragua’s flag using the official 3:5 proportion, three equal horizontal stripes and centered coat of arms.

1 Set the 3:5 rectangle
Choose any size that preserves a height-to-length ratio of 3:5. For example, a 600-pixel-high flag should be 1,000 pixels long.
2 Divide it into three equal horizontal bands
Split the height into three equal parts. In a 600 × 1,000 example, each stripe is 200 pixels high.
3 Apply the colors
Fill the top and bottom stripes with cobalt blue and leave the middle stripe white. For exact reproduction work, use authoritative official artwork rather than approximating a color from a random image.
4 Center the coat of arms
Place the national coat of arms at the exact center of the white stripe. The emblem contains the equilateral triangle, five volcanoes, rainbow and Phrygian cap, surrounded by the country and regional inscriptions.
5 Example dimensions

Common mistakes
- Using a 1:2 rectangle instead of the official 3:5 ratio.
- Making the middle stripe a different height.
- Using an oversimplified or off-center coat of arms.
- Choosing a generic bright blue without checking official artwork.
