What do the colors and stars mean?

Blue represents the surrounding ocean and waterways, green the land and forests, and yellow the sunshine. The five stars originally represented the country’s major island groups and collectively symbolise the nation.

History of the flag

The design was selected before independence and adopted in 1977. It remained the national flag when the Solomon Islands became independent from Britain on July 7, 1978.
